Rating & Routing

About Rating & Routing

You can use the Rating & Routing tool to obtain a quote for shipping up to six items between locations in the United States and Canada, based on YRC's standard E•Z-Rate® tariffs. You can also use it to obtain a table of rates for all shipment classes and weights between U.S. and Canadian locations.

For international or domestic ocean shipments (Alaska, Guam, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands) and Mexico, please call our toll-free international hotline at 1-800-468-5739 from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST.

Obtain a Rate Quote

  1. Enter origin and destination details. You must enter an origin and destination. You may enter a ZIP/postal code, or a city/state/prov combination. Be sure you select the correct country code. If the location is invalid, you will be prompted to try again. If you enter a city/state/prov, and this covers more than one ZIP/postal code, you will be prompted to select the correct one from a list.

  2. Enter the shipment characteristics. Enter the product weight in pounds and select the appropriate class code. You may enter up to six products. Select any enhanced service options that you require. (Enhanced service options are optional services for which additional fees apply. For example, there is an additional charge for hazardous materials delivery or for delivery to a home address.)

  3. Specify any advanced options required. Specify the shipment pickup date (if different from the current date) and any applicable discount or rate factor. You may have the rates and charges displayed in U.S.or Canadian dollars or Mexican pesos. Leave the COMPUTE option as As quote to obtain a rate quote. You may choose to have the rate quote display as a web page, a spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel) or a comma-delimited file. If you select the spreadsheet or file options, the rate quote will be saved to a file on your computer.

  2. Limit the table to specific classes (if desired). To display a full table of rates, do not enter any information in the "Shipment Characteristics" section. 3. Specify advanced options. To see historical rates, modify the shipment date. Discount percent is ignored when you request a rate table, but you may specify a rate factor to adjust the rates. General Notes

Weight
Weights must be specified in whole pounds only. For volume or full visible capacity shipments, please call YRC Freight Spot Volume at 1-800-920-1000 (toll-free). Shipments weighing less than 7,500 lb are rated at a minimum of 7,500 lb.

Freight Classes
All freight classes are derived from the National Motor Freight Tracking Association (NMFTA) National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC), a publication for motor carriers containing rules, descriptions and ratings of all goods moving in commerce. The publication is used to classify freight for freight bill rating purposes.

Click here for more information about freight classes and the NMFC, or call your local service center to determine the classification of your goods.

Discount Percent
Customers who have negotiated discounts with YRC Freight based on volume of shipments and other factors can enter their discount percentage here to obtain an accurate rate quote.
Example:
Enter a 25 percent discount as 25.00.

Factor
The factor is a percentage value by which base rates are adjusted before they are used to return the rate quote or table of rates. Values greater than 100 will increase base rates. Values less than 100 will decrease base rates.
Example: Enter a 75 percent factor as 75.00.

Display As
You may choose to have the rate quote display as a web page, a spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel) or a comma-delimited file. If you select the spreadsheet or file options, the rate quote will be saved to a file on your computer.
